Unity’s Brief History
Unity’s journey began on June 27, 2010, when Pastor Young and First Lady Gale Young opened their home to seventeen devoted individuals, united by faith and a shared vision. In just two months, the congregation experienced remarkable spiritual and numerical growth. Seeking God’s guidance, Unity transitioned to its first public location—a strip mall at 716 New Berlin Rd, Jacksonville, FL—on September 5, 2010, marking a significant step in its mission to serve the Oceanway Community.
Remaining steadfast in their commitment to Jesus Christ, Unity continued to flourish. On June 20, 2014, the church was blessed to acquire 3.79 acres of land, including a modest 800-square-foot home in need of restoration. Demonstrating faith and determination, the congregation voted to renovate and expand the building, completing a six-month project that transformed it into a 2,100-square-foot building which includes a 950 sp ft sanctuary with a vaulted ceiling—a true home for worship and fellowship.
Unity’s growth did not stop there. In June 2017, the church added an essential 880 square feet to its facilities. By March 2019, Unity had further expanded its reach by purchasing two steel-framed modules, each 900 square feet, along with an additional half-acre of adjacent land. After restoring these modules in May 2019, the church created dedicated spaces for Elementary and Middle/High School students, fostering holistic learning experiences tailored to every age group. The vibrant Kidzone found its home within the main building, ensuring that children were at the heart of Unity’s ministry.
To strengthen relationships and accountability, Unity refers to its ministries as “Teams” and its members as “Partners.” This approach nurtures a spirit of connection—to God and to one another—ensuring that every individual finds a place to belong, serve, and grow.
